Okay – so there’s no such thing as a stupid question.
It’s important not to feel embarrassed to ask a question and further your own knowledge, on any subject.
But as an internet marketer, you will sometimes come across a silly question or two.
Here’s why you’re unlikely to get a cut-and-dry answer – and what might be better to ask instead.
Why do I need to be on social media?
Some of us are more hesitant than others about getting our businesses on social media – the take-up tends to be even slower among business owners who wouldn’t use social media personally.
But it’s where your customers are – increasingly so.
That doesn’t mean you should be trying all forms of social media; what works for one company won’t work for others. Have a think about it, but don’t question whether you should be on social media any more than you’d question whether you should be in Google’s search results.
Why isn’t my site first on Google?
It’s a common question, and one we all ask ourselves, but unfortunately no one can give you an easy answer to this.
Raising the profile of your website in Google’s search pages is dependent on hundreds of different signals, from websites which link to your website, to your social media presence, to the quality of your blog. Chances are it isn’t just one thing!
Google is constantly changing its complex algorithm which decides where websites appear, and to whom. We need to keep up with the most recent advancements, and make sure your website doesn’t fall down among the results.
What’s wrong with my decade old website?
Sometimes, you’ll get asked a question that you wouldn’t know where to begin answering.
If your website hasn’t been updated in ten years then it’d be surprising if it still looked good. It’s understandable that when you have a website you worked hard on and still enjoy, you won’t want to give it up; but not everyone is so forgiving.
An outdated website – especially for e-commerce – can reek of amateurism, putting off potential customers. Now that we’re all much more used to the web, we’re all better at detecting a good website and, crucially, a bad one.
And perhaps most importantly, it won’t be mobile friendly. You might have been able to keep up your SEO on an old site, but it’s going to be horrendous on mobile, and that can (will) really affect your rankings!
How do I make viral content?
Oof…where to begin!
There’s no quick fix, image or word that we can use to get your content to spread like wildfire across the web. Ultimately part of it will be the current mood of the web at large – the things trending on social media and on the news.
There are several things that will help a piece of content become infectious, and they can’t often be predicted.
What you can do, however, is make valuable content. Answer a stupid question you hear a lot – provide an infographic explaining something complex in a simple way – do something new.
Then once that’s done, it has to be put out into the world in a shareable way.
How much will I spend on Internet Marketing?
Honestly? As much as you feel you can.
We can guide you through the prices per click on paid ads, how to save money by thinking creatively, and we can always adjust your budget to work around your needs. A lot of it will depend on what kind of business you have, and therefore how much paid adverts will cost per click.
But the sad truth is that, generally speaking, you’ll do better if you spend more money. You can’t expect to allot a miniscule budget and have it cover paid ads, employee time, social media adverts and then some custom-made infographics and videos!
Hopefully this has helped – and if you have a question that isn’t listed here, we promise not to call you stupid for asking it.
